However, in recent years, the emphasis has shifted towards non-violent practices, making Dashain a more animal-friendly celebration.

A significant part of Dashain is the receiving of Tika and Jamara. Elders offer Tika (a mixture of yogurt, rice, and vermillion) and Jamara (barley seeds grown and blessed during the festival) to the younger members of the family, symbolizing their blessings and best wishes for the coming year.
