Jungle Activities During Monsoon in Chitwan National Park
Monsoon Season in Chitwan
From June to August, Nepal experiences the monsoon season. This period brings a significant transformation in the plant and animal life within Chitwan National Park. The park is enveloped in dense green forests and grasslands. You can hear the sound of raindrops on leaves, the calls of birds and insects, and the incredible scents of flora and fauna. The rains cause rivers and streams to rise, creating water sources for the park’s animals. Small waterholes fill up, becoming favorite spots for rhino mud baths. These waterholes also attract deer, monkeys, and wild boars. Though the dense foliage can make wildlife spotting more challenging, the search for animals adds an extra layer of excitement and adventure.
Activities During Monsoon
Jeep Safaris
During the monsoon, jeep safaris inside the park are closed. However, you can still enjoy 2-3 hour jeep safaris in the buffer zone community forest.
Canoeing
Canoeing remains an option, with both short and long trips available, often combined with half-day or full-day jungle walks. However, be cautious of high water levels and rapids. Canoeing may be suspended for a few days if there is a flood.
Jungle Walks
Jungle walks are open year-round, both inside and outside the park. You can choose from half-day, full-day, or multi-day walks. Walking through muddy roads, crossing streams, and listening to the sounds of the jungle are truly exhilarating experiences.
Tharu Cultural Tour
The Tharu people are one of Nepal’s ethnic groups with unique traditions and culture. A tour through their villages or a visit to the Tharu museum offers deep insights into their way of life.
